Soundpost was formed in 2011 to run the first Singing Weekend. Since then we have turned into quite a beast, incorporating more and more people and ideas as we go along. As a rule, the events we run explore traditions of the British Isles, develop practical skills with thinking attached, and we firmly recognise the value of entertainment.
For Transmitting Musical Heritage we ran a Fiddle Weekend bringing 15 tutors from the UK, USA and Morocco to talk about their music. 80 people came on the weekend to share this experience. The questions we thought about were How do different practitioners approach teaching? Who’s heritage is it anyway? How can individual style develop within a group context?
